With more than 50 years of motorsport experience between them, from karting to Formula 1, Trevor Carlin and Martin Stone founded Carlin in 1996. Together with eight other members from different Formula 1 teams, one of the most successful teams outside F1 was born.
1999 was Carlin’s first full season in competition, participating in British F3 championship with the Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan, who won six races that year, demonstrating the great potential that would make Carlin the most successful team in British F3 history. Within a few years, the rapid expansion of the team in European competitions took CARLIN MOTORSPORT to be present in virtually all single seater categories in Europe.
From its foundations in British F3, Carlin has competed in a number of championships, including Porsche Supercup, A1GP, Nissan World Series, Formula BMW UK and World Series by Renault and F3 Euro Series.
Since its establishment, the team has played an integral role in the careers of some of the top drivers in the sport, including numerous F1 stars. More than 150 drivers have passed through the doors of CARLIN MOTORSPORT, taking over 140 victories and nearly 300 podiums.
Based on the team’s race winning reputation, the RED BULL JUNIOR TEAM placed F3 rookie Jaime Alguersuari in the British squad for the 2008 season and it proved to be a successful choice. Carlin was the first squad in the history to score a 1,2,3 in the Series with Alguersuari, Turvey and Hartley.
